Since 2022, Mia’s Nest has also been available as an audiobook—together with three other delightful stories.

For all girls… and especially for girls with tangles in their hair 💛

Mia’s Nest is a Dutch Little Golden Book, published by Rubinstein in October 2014. It tells the charming story of Mia, a little girl whose hair is always wonderfully, hopelessly tangled. When her mother announces a visit to the hairdresser to have it cut short, Mia feels worried—and turns to her feathered friends for help. With a little imagination and a lot of heart, they search for a solution together.

The moment the incredibly talented Angela Pelaez Vargas shared her idea and showed me her beautiful pencil illustrations, I was completely enchanted. One look was all it took. With a son whose nickname in primary school was “bird’s nest,” I couldn’t resist writing Mia’s story. We were over the moon when Rubinstein embraced the project and decided to publish it as a Little Golden Book. A Little Golden Book! A dream come true.

In 2016, El nido de Mia, the Spanish edition of Mia’s nest, followed. Angela translated the story for Panamericana, a publisher in her home country of Colombia. Today, El nido de Mia is also available in the United States, sharing Mia’s story with even more young readers around the world.
