Shelter in Place

What happens to a writer when there is a shelter-in-place edict that shrinks your physical world to proportions of times passé? Not much, I thought. I’ll be fine, I thought. I’m a writer and, by nature, a bit of a recluse. I mostly live in my head. Not that I don’t pay attention to the world around me. I do! A lot. But you won’t find me in the middle of the melee if I can help it. I feel most comfortable observing the world from the peace and quiet of my home. I prefer to take in life as it glides by: who moves where and how and, importantly, why? I look for connections and cross-connections, I analyze, I contemplate, I add perspective,…

Daily Distraction: a 'Selfie'

Although I don’t particularly like the concept of selfies, I did draw one for the 52-Week Illustration Challenge that I entered on Facebook. To keep the illustration juices flowing we are presented with a different theme every week. This week’s challenge is a ‘selfie’. I did one in pencil and soft pastels.

Daily Distraction: Vigeland Inspiration

This is the angry boy, and I decided not to go for his famous hand, but for a head shot. It’s hard to get the expressions right, though. I’ve wandered around in the Vigeland Museet in Oslo for hours and hours to try and find Gustav Vigeland’s secret. I’m not there yet. Reassuringly, there is always room for improvement! Keep calm and draw!
