About Mina

I never planned to become a writer. I thought I’d be an architect. But stories kept calling me back, and once I started writing, I knew I’d found what I was meant to do.

Today I write adventurous, heart-filled books for young readers, and for anyone who believes curiosity can change the way we see the world. My stories are inspired by real experiences. I sail, travel, explore, and sometimes even get a little lost, all in the name of research. If my characters brave storms, climb mountains, or discover hidden places, chances are I’ve been there too.

My books, including the much acclaimed Boreas adventure series, are loved by readers, teachers, librarians, and parents because they combine page-turning adventures with real-world discoveries. Along the way, readers learn about nature, navigation, history, science, and different cultures—without ever feeling like they’re in class.

Originally from the Netherlands and now living in California, I write in both Dutch and English, teach creative writing, and encourage young people everywhere to read, write, wonder, and go on adventures of their own.
